3 quart Dutch Oven


400 gms – condensed milk
1 ½ litres – milk, full fat
¼ cup – almonds, chopped
¼ cup – cashewnuts, chopped
¼ cup – pistachios, chopped
1 tsp – cardamom powder
10 -12 no.s – saffron, strands
a pinch – nutmeg powder


  • Preheat the dutch oven on medium heat. Add milk and let it boil.
  • Once done add the condensed milk and mix well. Switch the heat to low.
  • Place the lid on and the Redi-Temp®valve closed. Let it cook for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Then open the lid and keep stirring till the milk till it thickens; make sure the milk does not stick to the base and brown too much.
  • The mixture by now will start to thicken. Scrape the milk solids from the sides and add it to the basundi mixture.
  • Add chopped nuts, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder and saffron. Mix well for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Garnish with some saffron strands. Serve hot/chilled.
